Superhero Party

When Joseph was 6, we had a Superhero Birthday Party.

We made special invitations with a registration form to let the kids think about what superpowers they would like and what would be their superhero name and secret identity.

Here are the registration forms.  They may look a little intimidating but they were a lot of fun!
“Like” our facebook page for access to free printables including the Superhero Registration Form, Identification Badges and Superhero Verification Form
(task tally sheet).
We made a Retinal Scan and Hand Print Identification Station out of a cardboard box, but since it was pre-blog in 2007, I don’t have any pictures!  We also weighed and measured each kid, just so we had more to add to their identification badge.
Here’s a sketch.

The party was in February, so we had a few ‘tasks’ outside, testing for speed (homemade luge run), agility and villain capture (catching the “Cake Capers”…my older brother and friend, dressed as villains), endurance (obstacle course), invisibility (hide and seek), aim (target practice), survival (finding the kryptonite) and X-Ray vision (identifying objects while blindfolded).  Joseph’s older sisters (dressed in lab coats aka oversized white shirts) recorded the scores (a little subjectively) on the verification sheets (also available by pdf).

Our youngest at the time was a little too young to appreciate Superhero awesomeness.

Please subscribe to this blog and leave a comment if you’d like access to the free printables including the Superhero Registration Form, Identification Badges and Superhero Verification Form.
Just checking to see if anyone’s out there. =)

Birthday Party: Teddy Bear Depot

Our first DIY Teddy Bear party was so much fun that we had another Teddy Bear party for the same kid when she was 10!

For both parties, I was able to find very reasonably priced bears for each of the kids attending the party.  The second time around, the bears were only $1 each at Dollarama!

The first time around, I made these easy No-Sew Ponchos for each of the bears.

The kids decorated them with sticky jewels, sequins, foam flowers and letters and felt.

The second time around, I found cute little knit sweaters (beside the Dollarama bears!) and I bought a selection so that the kids could choose their favorites. The kids decorated the sweaters with little jewel brads and sticky jewels.  They also made a foam I.D. for their newly named bear, along with a pony bead necklace.

Although the 6 year olds enjoyed a pure Adoption process, complete with Adoption papers and a pledge to take care of their bears, the 10 year olds were surprised by the “Secret Rescue Operation” when my brother broke into the room with a cardboard box of bears.

The invitation reads
“Your assistance is required at the Teddy Bear Depot
for Kelly’s double digits Secret Rescue Operation.”

The Bear Care Instructions:
1. Never leave your bear under your bed.
2. Your bear does not eat honey (or any real food, really)
3. Give your bear an air bath once in a while with a hair dryer on a cool setting.
The certificate to be filled out at the party once the bear is named:
This is to certify that _____promises to love and to care for _________ and has achieved outstanding success at rescuing and naming, grooming and dressing, saving and soothing.
It was all quite official.

Birthday Party: Minute to Win it!

Minute To Win It is an NBC gameshow with challenges to complete within 60 seconds.
My eldest daughter decided to host a Minute To Win It party for her 15th birthday.  She collected the household materials for about 25 different challenges and tried them out, ranking them by difficulty.  Her 13 friends randomly chose 3 different challenges…and it kept them busy for about 2 hours!
She let me take pictures as she and her brother tried each challenge before the party!
